West Hamlin Elementary Nomination for Lincoln County Schools Teacher of the Year

Olivia Bird is the music teacher at West Hamlin Elementary in Lincoln County, West Virginia. She has taught for five years, two of those years spent as a substitute teacher, and she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Marshall University. Bird fosters a love for music and collaboration in her students, and models that in her own position. She frequently collaborates with grade level teams to ensure the success of her three yearly music concerts. Bird also works in the summers in summer enrichment programs and started West Hamlin Elementary's afterschool choir program this year. She serves as a board member in West Hamlin Elementary's chapter of the National Elementary Honor's Society and is also a member of West Hamlin Elementary's Apple Vanguard team. Bird emphasizes leadership characteristics and strong work ethics in her lessons so that students carry these characteristics through their working adult lives.
